Control Panels are panels on a dashboard that contain objects that allow the user to interact with the dashboard.
In addition to titles, the control panel can contain filter parameters, query parameters and query refresh buttons. To open the Control Panel window, add a new control panel or edit an existing control panel object.
The control panel window consists of a work area and two tabs, the panel tab and the objects tab.
You can create a control panel for applying filters to your data by selecting the control panel object from the drop down menu that appears when you press the add dashboard object button.
Or you can create your own control panel object by dragging the Control panel object () from the toolbox.
Work Area
The Control Panel Work Area displays the control panel you are currently editing and allows you to select individual control panel items to modify and delete them.
The selected control is highlighted in the work area. To select a specific control panel object in the work area, simply click on it using the left mouse button. To remove the selection and highlight, so you can see the control panel as it will appear in the dashboard, press the preview button. |
Panel Tab
The Panel Tab provides access to commands to add and remove objects from, and change the appearance of, the control panel you are currently editing.
To open the panel tab, click on it in the window header. | |||||||||||
Add Title - Adds a title object to the control panel and opens the label window to allow you to enter the text for your title. You can change the appearance of your title using the object tab.

Add Filter Parameter - Opens a drop down list that allows you to select the type of filter parameter you wish to add to your control panel. Filter parameters are objects that allow a user to specify a value that can be used to filter dashboard objects in your dashboard.
There are four types of filter parameter described in the table below;

Calendar Variable - Opens the Calendar Variable dialog enabling the addition of a Calendar Variable. | |||||||||||
Calculation Variable - Opens the Calculation Variable dialog enabling the addition of a Calculation Variable. | |||||||||||
Image - Allows the selection of an image using a File Dialogbox. | |||||||||||
Web Element - Opens the label window to allow you to enter a Web Element. A Web Element is a small piece of htm to display additional information. | |||||||||||
Delete Dashboard Object - Delete the selected control panel object. | |||||||||||
Move Dashboard Object Up - Moves the selected control panel object up one place in the control panel.

Move Dashboard Object Down - Moves the selected control panel object down one place in the control panel.

Force to New Row - This Checkbox can be selected to force the object to be displayed on a new row, as opposed to allowing the browser to determine its position | |||||||||||
Cut Control Panel Object - Deletes the selected control panel object and copies it to the clipboard.

Copy Control Panel Object - Copies the selected control panel to the clipboard. | |||||||||||
Paste Control Panel Object - Pastes a copied control panel object on to the control panel.

Preview Control Panel - Removes the selection from the control panel so you can see how it will appear in the dashboard.

Tab Title - Opens the label editor that allows you to change the text that is displayed in the tab above the control panel when the containing tab is in design mode. | |||||||||||
Show Debug Options - When selected, loads a browser windows showing the Browser Developer Tools |
Object Tab
The Object Tab provides access to commands to modify the appearance and behaviour of the selected control in the control panel.
The object tab is only available when a control is selected in the work area. To open the object tab, make sure a control is selected in the work area, then click on it in the window header. | |
Edit Label - Opens the label window to allow you to modify the label or title text of the selected control. | |
Style - When a Title Object is selected the Drop down list of text styles is enabled | |
Drop Down Contents - Opens the drop down contents window to allow you to specify how the drop down list in the selected control is populated.

Slider Scale - Opens the slider properties window to allow you to specify how the scale for the slider is calculated | |
Calendar Variable - Opens the Calendar Variable dialog enabling modificationof a Calendar Variable. | |
Calculation Variable - Opens the Calculation Variable dialog enabling modification of a Calculation Variable. | |
Change Image - Allows you to browse to an alternative image When an Image Object is selected a dropdown list of image alignment is enabled |
Drop Down Contents
The Drop Down Contents window allows you to specify the contents of a drop down list in a control panel.
To open the drop down contents window, select a control in the control panel window, select the object tab then press the drop down contents button. Alternatively you can double click on a drop down list in the control panel window.
There are two ways you can populate the drop down list;

To populate the drop down list using data returned from a query, follow the steps below; | ||

Select the option to populate the drop down list from a query, then select the query data set you want the values to be drawn from.
If you want to filter the query data set (perhaps to filter the contents based on another filter parameter), select the filter button to open the Define Filter Condition window to allow you to define the filter. | |

Select the column you want to use to build a list of values to be displayed in the drop down list.
If the column is a date field, select which time interval you want to be used to build the display values.

You may wish to use a value from column other than the display column in your filter condition.
To define a different column as the filter parameter value, select the use a different column check box and select the column you want to use. | |
Finally, select whether you want the values sorted (by the display value, rather than shown in the original order), whether you want to ignore duplicate items, and whether you want to include an option for all (if all is selected any filter condition based on this filter parameter will be ignored).
(NB. if you have opted to use different columns for the display and value columns, two items are only considered duplicate if both columns have the same value).

To populate the drop down list by entering values manually, follow the steps below; | |
Select the manual option, then repeatedly enter an item and press Add to add it to the list.
When all items are in the list, press OK.
To change the order of values in the list, select the value, then press the the green up or down arrows to move its position in the list.
To delete an item from the list, select it in the list then press the Delete key.
Finally, select whether you want to include an option for all (if all is selected any filter condition based on this filter parameter will be ignored). |
Label
The Label window allows you to enter the text for a label or title
To open the label window, select a control in the control panel window, select the object tab then press the edit label button. Alternatively you can double click on a label or title in the control panel window.

To edit the text for a label or title, type the text in the label window, and press OK. | |
The Insert Button alows the entry of subject based data. This button is available for Title and Web Element Objects. The Information that is avaialble is:-
